Construction has begun on a $2 million streetscape beautification project in downtown Plymouth.
And, despite construction that will continue through mid-May, downtown Plymouth remains “Open for Business” with plenty of parking available for visitors to shop and dine.
The first phase of the $2 million project will include the repaving of Main Street from Penniman Ave. to Ann Arbor Trail, as well as Ann Arbor Trail from Union St. to Forest Ave. New concrete intersections will beconstructed at Main and Ann Arbor Trail as well as Ann Arbor Trail and Forest. The project also calls for new crosswalks at the corner of Main and Ann Arbor Trail, as well as the mid-block crossings on Main St. and Ann Arbor Trail and Forest. A decorative pedestrian feature - a multi-colored compass – will be centered in the middle of the intersection of Main and Ann Arbor Trail.
Decorative mast arms for new LED traffic signals will also be part of the streetscape at Main and Ann Arbor Trail. We anticipate that on Monday, March 22, work will continue to augur new bases for the mast arm poles. This phase is expected to go through Thursday, March 22, and will involve the closure of the sidewalk at the northwest and southwest corners of Main St. and Ann Arbor Tr. one corner at a time as work is being completed.
Beginning April first, look for Main Street and Ann Arbor Trail closures (click here for detour map) to begin as the underground infrastructure improvements and construction on the 10-inch thick concrete intersections and new pedestrian crosswalks are installed.
As always, construction schedules are subject to significant changes as a result of weather, crew scheduling, equipment, site conditions and other factors that may affect the timing of the schedule.
